Pakistan, with its strong agricultural foundation, exports a diverse array of agricultural and allied products to global markets. However, despite this inherent strength, the country continues to face a persistent trade deficit. Addressing this challenge requires strategic interventions aimed at balancing the trade equation and shifting it towards a sustainable surplus. A significant opportunity lies in the unmet demand for agricultural and related products in neighbouring countries.
At present, much of this demand is fulfilled by distant suppliers, resulting in elevated logistics and transportation costs. Pakistan’s geographical proximity and agricultural capabilities uniquely position it to serve these markets more efficiently and economically. To capitalise on this opportunity, Pakistan must focus on enhancing the production of high-demand crops and products and expanding cultivable land area.
