Qazi files defamation suit against lawyer

PESHAWAR: Insaf Lawyers Forum President Qazi Anwar Advocate has filed Rs500 million defamation lawsuit against Moazzam Butt Advocate over allegations of soliciting monthly payments from legal officers at the Advocate General’s Office.

The lawsuit was submitted in a Peshawar district court, where Qazi Anwar claimed that the accusations made by Moazzam Butt were baseless and had damaged his reputation.According to the lawsuit, Butt had alleged that Anwar was involved in extorting money from the Advocate General’s Office as well as receiving payments from the provincial government. However, Qazi Anwar categorically denied the allegations.

The defamation suit stated that Moazzam Butt accused Anwar of interfering in provincial government affairs. Anwar has challenged Butt to provide evidence to support his allegations or else pay Rs500 million in damages for the harm caused to his professional standing.
