KARACHI: The Pakistan Olympic Association (POA) Executive Committee has approved the recommendations of the National Sports Commission and has given final approval to hold the 35th National Games in December in Karachi.
The decision to this effect was taken in an emergency meeting of POA Executive Committee, on Monday, chaired by POA President Arif Saeed, in which the recommendations of the National Sports Commission regarding the 35th National Games were considered.
It should be noted that the National Games were scheduled from May 1 to 9 in Karachi, but due to the heat wave alert in Sindh, they had to be postponed just 15 days before the event, after which the National Sports Commission meeting was held in Lahore 3 days ago to announce the new dates, in which it was proposed to hold the National Games in December after the weather becomes moderate.
The POA Executive Committee meeting accepted the proposals of the National Sports Commission , according to which the 35th National Games will be held in Karachi in December under the hosting of the Sindh Olympic Association (SOA), however, the regular schedule will be announced later.
The letter written by the Punjab Olympic Association in violation of the Olympic Charter was also taken up in the POA Executive Committee meeting. On behalf of SOA, Secretary General Ahmed Ali Rajput demanded in the meeting that the letter written by an unauthorized official of the Punjab Olympic Association to the Punjab Sports Board not only challenged the POA’s writ but was also technically incorrect. If the Punjab Olympic Association had any such desire, it should have approached the POA instead of the Punjab Sports Board. Ahmed Ali Rajput demanded in the meeting that disciplinary action is very important while taking note of this sensitive matter.
