Experts discuss education reforms
Islamabad:The Pakistan Institute of Education (PIE), under the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training, hosted a national workshop aimed at reforming middle-tier education governance in Pakistan.
The workshop, held in collaboration with (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation) Unesco’s International Institute for Educational Planning, the Institute of Social and Policy Sciences, and with support from the UK’s Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office, brought together senior education officials and stakeholders from all provinces and regions to discuss and endorse key policy recommendations targeting district-level education improvement. The agenda focused on empowering district education managers, reinforcing decentralised decision-making, improving Education Management Information Systems (EMIS), standardising competency frameworks, and promoting coordination, equity, and inclusion in education.
Participants emphasised the urgent need for sustained political will and financial commitment to ensure long-term impact. The event concluded with the presentation of provincial action plans and a joint pledge to institutionalise district-level capacity-building across the country. In his closing remarks, Dr. Muhammad Shahid Soroya, Director General of PIE, reaffirmed the institute’s dedication to evidence-based education policy and highlighted its ongoing collaboration with IIEP-UNESCO to enhance middle-tier management systems nationwide.
