I have lived in the Garden West area of Karachi for the last three decades and have never defaulted on any of my utility bills. Most of the other residents of this area can say the same. And yet, we have still fallen victim to daily loadshedding. When we presented our bills at the K-Electric office, we were told that electricity theft had been reported in our area and so loadshedding had been initiated. We asked KE to take legal action against electricity thieves and defaulters but spare us from excessive loadshedding, but the officer expressed his inability to do anything for us. How are our homes supposed to function when loadshedding can go on for up to 14 hours?
There was a time when KE used to visit the premises of defaulters and disconnect their electricity connections till the settlement of their dues. This no longer appears to be the case and everyone is being punished. This attitude has made our lives miserable. The people’s anger is mounting in this scorching heat. KE is requested to take stock of the situation and resolve the excessive loadshedding issue.
