PESHAWAR: Inspector General of Police Nasir Khan Durrani has thanked the provincial government for approving extension in services of contract employees of the Special Police Force and ex-servicemen, assuring the decision would go a long way towards bringing a positive impact on the overall law and order situation.

It was decided to relieve the Special Police Officers and ex-servicemen from the force till June 30 this year and a notification to this effect had also been issued. The decision shattered the hopes of the employees and their families. They started taking up the issue on different forums, particularly the media.

The employees sought help from the IGP by submitting application for extension in services. The police chief held special meetings with the chief minister in which the services of the Special Police Officers and ex-servicemen were termed indispensable for maintaining law and order as they were performing duty shoulder-to-shoulder with regular police officials. He requested the chief minister to extend their services.

The chief minister took a keen interest and accorded the employees three years extension in service by using special power delegated to him. The IGP on Wednesday sent a letter to the provincial government, thanking the chief minister for the extension, said an official communiqué.
