Seminary teacher ‘tortures’ student for not learning lesson
LAHORE:A four-year old student was allegedly tortured by his teacher at a seminary in the Batapur area after failing to memorise his lesson.
The incident sparked outrage, with authorities launching legal action following a complaint by the victim’s father. According to details, the boy, Zulqarnain, sustained visible marks on his face after the madrassa’s Qari Waseem reportedly beat him for not remembering his lesson. Family members alerted the police, but by the time law enforcement reached the scene, the accused had fled.
‘The child was traumatised, and his injuries were evident,’ said a police official. ‘We have registered a case based on the father’s complaint and are working to apprehend the suspect.’ Local residents expressed anger over the incident, condemning the use of violence. ‘Such brutality against a small child is unacceptable,’ said a neighbour. ‘Teachers should guide with patience, not cruelty.’
Child rights activists have called for stricter monitoring of educational centres to prevent abuse. ‘Corporal punishment is illegal, and those responsible must be held accountable,’ said a representative from a local NGO.
