Worsening law and order: Chattan slams PM for ignoring KP
KHAR: Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) leader and former Member National Assembly (MNA) Syed Akhunzada Chattan on Tuesday criticised Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for his lack of seriousness about the deteriorating law and order in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Speaking at a press conference, he said there was a clear contrast between the situation in Balochistan and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, adding that the federal government’s apathy towards KP was evident in its failure to send any senior representative to the province.
Explaining the difference between the two restive provinces, Chattan stated, “In Balochistan, the Baloch do not kill Baloch, but in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakhtuns are targeting fellow Pakhtuns.”
Chattan acknowledged that the federal government had managed to bring some economic stability and partially controlled inflation, but lamented that no attention was being given to the worsening security crisis in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. He expressed disappointment over the federal government’s silence, calling it a sign of its disconnect from the province’s affairs.
He emphasised that combating terrorism and establishing sustainable peace was not the job of a single political party or government. “All state institutions, political parties, and stakeholders must unite on a single platform,” he said. According to Chattan, military operations alone cannot bring lasting peace; what is needed is a comprehensive and multi-dimensional policy. He urged the prime minister to convene an All Parties Conference (APC) to address the alarming situation in the country, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
