Smuggling bid foiled; mobile phones worth millions seized
LAHORE:Customs officials at Allama Iqbal International Airport carried out a major operation, thwarting an attempt to smuggle expensive mobile phones worth millions of rupees into the country.
According to the Customs’ spokesperson, the action was initiated on a tip-off from Collector of Customs Lahore Airport, Ms Tayyabba Kiyani, whose consistent vigilance has led to multiple successful seizures in recent months.
The operation targeted a flight, arriving from Sharjah. On arrival, a passenger identified as Mumtaz Muzaffar, a resident of Sialkot, was intercepted. A thorough search of his luggage led to the recovery of 95 expensive mobile phones concealed within. The estimated market value of the seized devices runs into millions of rupees. A case was registered against the accused, who is now in custody.
