Hassan wants fans to be patient with young players
KARACHI: Pakistan fast bowler Hassan Ali said Monday the national team’s performance directly influences the popularity of the Pakistan Super League, calling on players to step up in the upcoming tournament to win back fans.
Speaking to reporters during the Karachi Kings’ first practice session ahead of the PSL’s 10th season, Hassan acknowledged Pakistan’s recent struggles but urged patience with new players.
“When the national team doesn’t perform well, it impacts franchise leagues like the PSL,” he said. “But when Pakistan does well, the PSL’s standing rises too.” Pakistan has faced setbacks in recent months, including early exits from the ICC Champions Trophy on home soil and a disappointing tour of New Zealand. Hassan, however, defended the squad’s newcomers.
“The current results aren’t great, but we have fresh faces in the team and management who need time,” he said. “The players know their mistakes and where to improve.” The fast bowler stressed that strong PSL performances could rekindle fan enthusiasm.
“Our people love cricket, and the fans are passionate,” he said. “We’ll give our best to make them happy.” This year’s PSL overlaps with the Indian Premier League, but Hassan remained confident. “Fans follow quality cricket and entertainment. If we deliver in the PSL, viewers will choose us over the IPL.”
He also highlighted the league’s role in developing young talent, calling it a key platform for emerging players to learn from top stars. “Performing here gets selectors’ attention — that’s undeniable.”
Hassan, who recently impressed in domestic T20s, said he aims to carry that form into the PSL. “I did well in the National T20 Cup and want to maintain that momentum. This tournament is crucial for my national team comeback, and as Kings players, we’ll work to bring Karachi’s fans back to the stadium.” The PSL begins April 11, with the Kings opening their campaign April 12 against Multan Sultans.
