SIU arrests three who robbed women travelling in rickshaws
The Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of Karachi Police has arrested three suspects allegedly involved in several street crime incidents, including robbing women commuting in rickshaws and other vehicles of gold jewellery and cash.
According to SIU officials, the arrested suspects had been identified as Riaz Mehmood, alias Fauji, Dildar Khan and Waqas. The SIU stated that on March 9, the suspects held a woman at gunpoint in Karachi’s Ferozabad area and snatched her gold bangles, ring necklace, and earrings.
Investigators said the arrested men and their accomplices had been carrying out criminal activities in Ferozabad, Bahadurabad, Sharea Faisal, Saddar and other parts of the city. They particularly targeted women traveling in rickshaws and other vehicles.
Police revealed that the suspects used metal cutters to forcibly remove jewellery from victims. All three suspects were repeat offenders and had previously served time in jail for similar crimes. Weapons and a motorcycle used in the crimes were recovered from their possession. Further investigations are under way.
