Afghan refugees celebrate Eid
PESHAWAR: Eidul Fitr was partially celebrated in a few parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa mostly by the Afghan refugees living in the province in accordance with the Saudi Arabian government’s announcement of the sighting of the Shawal moon.
Prayer leaders in the respective areas made public announcements, via mosque loudspeakers, declaring the end of Ramazan and the commencement of the Eid celebrations on Sunday, shortly after Saudi
Arabia confirmed the moon sighting.
In Peshawar, Eid prayers were offered in several mosques across villages including Deh Bahadar, Wahid Garhi, Nasir Bagh, Urmar, Baila, Mahalla Islamabad, and Yaseen Abad, among others.
One of the prayer leaders in Garhi Atta Mohammad shared a recorded
message on social
media, announcing, “We will celebrate Eid on Sunday as the Saudi Arabian government has announced the sighting of the Shawal moon.”
Celebrations were also reported from various areas in the merged districts.
On Saturday night, ANP Central President Aimal Wali Khan shared a video message stating, “As you all know, we will celebrate Eid with the rest of the Muslim world.”
He urged caution during the Eid celebrations, given the fragile law and order situation, and advised people to avoid large gatherings in hujras (community guest houses).
“I appeal to all the Pakhtuns to refrain from celebratory firing, as such acts bring grief to others,” he added.
In Charsadda, Eid was celebrated in areas such as Mandani and Matta Mughalkhel, where Eid prayers were held at Khabeeb Koroona and Bahram Dhere in Mandani.
Eid was also celebrated in Bajaur, Bannu, North Waziristan and other parts of the province.
