Naqvi expresses appreciation for US acknowledgement of Pakistan’s contributions to the fight against terrorism

SLAMABAD: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi and US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Ms Natalie Baker have discussed the issue of illegal Pakistani immigrants residing in the United States, with Islamabad pledging full cooperation in their repatriation. The interior minister met the US acting ambassador here on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations, mutual interests and collaborative efforts, with a strong emphasis on counter-terrorism. The meeting, held amidst heightened regional security concerns, saw acting Ambassador Baker express deep condolences for the victims of the recent terrorist attacks, including the attack on Jaffar Express. She vehemently condemned these acts of violence.

A key outcome of the discussion was the agreement to hold a Counter-Terrorism Dialogue in June, signaling a reinforced commitment to joint efforts in combating terrorism. Minister Naqvi emphasised the global nature of terrorism, urging international cooperation and detailed Pakistan’s ongoing comprehensive policy against terrorist elements. He also expressed appreciation for the US acknowledgement of Pakistan’s contributions to the fight against terrorism.

Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, who was congratulated by Ambassador Baker on his new role, reiterated Pakistan’s significant sacrifices in the war on terror and underscored the nation’s strategic partnership with the US.

Furthermore, Ambassador Baker commended the ongoing development projects in Islamabad and acknowledged progress across various sectors in Pakistan. The meeting was also attended by US Political Counselor Zach Harkenrider and Federal Interior Secretary Khurram Agha. Minister Naqvi also highlighted the upcoming Pakistan-US Caucus meeting scheduled for April 30th in New York.
