KARACHI: K-Electric (KE) has reported a strong response to the Prime Minister’s Winter Demand Initiative, which offered lower electricity rates on incremental usage from December 2024 to February 2025.
Designed to incentivise higher power consumption during the off-peak season, the initiative was particularly effective among industrial consumers, KE said in a press release on Thursday.
Within KE’s network, incremental consumption among industries increased by 6-7 per cent over the course of the programme. This growth underscores KE’s commitment to supporting Karachi’s industrial activity and backing Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s initiatives aimed at enhancing economic productivity.
Commenting on the package’s impact, KE’s Head of Communications Imran Rana said: “The Prime Minister’s Bijli Sahulat Package incentivised the usage of over 100 million units of electricity cumulatively in Karachi, allowing customers to benefit from increased consumption during the off-season.”
“KE supports industrial growth, recognising that economic stability is driven by a thriving industrial sector. This is a clear indication of the effectiveness of such targeted packages, and we encourage the continuation of initiatives that enhance affordability while promoting energy efficiency.”
The initiative was introduced to offer lower electricity rates for residential, commercial, general services and industrial consumers on incremental consumption during the three winter months. It aimed to boost power usage amid high tariffs and economic challenges.
