PM directs authorities to clear ambiguity about solar energy policy
PM Shehbaz Sharif directs expediting privatisation process of power distribution companies
ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday, ruling out any change in the government’s policy and priorities regarding solar energy, instructed the authorities concerned to clear all ambiguities among the people on the solarization policy through facts and figures.
The prime minister, chairing a review meeting on the matters related to Power Division, directed the swift settlement of all legal and other formalities related to the liquidation of generation companies, and expediting the privatization process of power distribution companies, according to a PM Office press release.
He said that a package was being formulated to reduce the electricity tariffs, which would be announced soon to provide further relief to the public in terms of electricity prices.
Prime Minister Shehbaz directed the Power Division, Water Resources Division, and Petroleum Division to improve their coordination for a comprehensive strategy in the energy sector.
The meeting was attended by Federal Minister for Power Division Sardar Awais Leghari, Adviser to PM Dr. Taqeer Shah, and other senior government officials. Federal Minister for Economic Affairs Ahad Khan Cheema, and the Advisor to PM Muhammad Ali joined the meeting via video link.
Meanwhile, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev has congratulated Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and people of Pakistan on the occasion of Pakistan Day.
In a letter addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the President of Azerbaijan said, “On behalf of myself and the people of Azerbaijan, I sincerely congratulate you and your brotherly people on the occasion of the national holiday of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan ‘Pakistan Day,’ extending my best wishes.
The Azeri president expressed great satisfaction over the current level of the Azerbaijan-Pakistan strategic partnership and mutual cooperation which, he said, was “enriched with new content day by day”. “Our successful joint activities in the economy, transport, logistics, energy, investment, defence industry, and several other areas of mutual interest are among the key factors determining our ties,” he added.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday denounced the recent terrorist attack on worshippers in Niger which resulted in the tragic loss of innocent lives. In a message posted on the social media platform X on Sunday, Sharif expressed Pakistan’s solidarity with the people of Niger emphasizing shared grief during this challenging period.
