The Government of Sindh has cancelled the Eidul Fitr holidays of transport officers across the province in order to protect the public from being charged excess fares.
Transport & Mass Transit Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said that as part of the campaign against the charging of excess fares, all officers and staff of his transport & mass transit department would remain on duty during Eid.
Memon said the provincial government aims to ensure that people do not face difficulties in travelling, and immediate action is taken against transporters charging excess fares.
A statement quoted him as saying that complaints about excess fares are common during Eid. He stressed that no one should pay more than the approved fare, and that transport officers across the province would actively fulfil their responsibilities to facilitate the public.
He also said that all officials of the Sindh Transport Authority, and the regional and district regional transport authorities would be on duty during Eid to address public complaints. The provincial government has issued special directives to take strict action against the transporters involved in charging excess fares, he added.
Memon urged the public not to pay excess fares, and to report any violation immediately so that the government can take swift action.
