As a passionate supporter of Pakistan cricket, I was genuinely shocked by the decision of not including Babar Azam in the T20 squad for the upcoming series against New Zealand. Babar's consistent performance has made him an integral member of the team and his presence brings much-needed stability and confidence to the batting lineup. Excluding such a key player at this stage feels neither wise nor fair. It risks not only weakening the team’s performance but also damaging public trust in the selection process.
Pakistan's head coach, Aqib Javed, recently emphasised the importance of giving opportunities to young talent — a vision I fully support. However, this goal should not come at the cost of sidelining experienced players like Babar Azam. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should focus on integrating youth alongside seasoned performers. Young players can grow and thrive under the mentorship of world-class batsmen like Babar, learning the skills, mindset, and discipline needed to excel on the international stage.
