A man murdered his wife by slitting her throat with a sharp-edged weapon at a private hotel near Nursery on Sharea Faisal before fleeing the crime scene. The victim’s family protested outside the Governor House and the Karachi Press Club to demand the husband’s arrest.
Police found the woman’s mutilated body in a hotel room in the Tipu Sultan area. The body was then taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre. The victim was identified as Erum, 25.
SHO Tariq Mehmood said that according to the initial investigation, Erum was murdered by her husband Adil with a knife. The couple had been married for two years, and they both had been married to other partners previously, he added. The officer said Adil frequently voiced his suspicions about Erum, which led to repeated arguments between the couple. The night before, Adil invited Erum to the hotel under the pretence of reconciliation and celebrating their wedding anniversary, he added.
He said Erum arrived at the hotel with her aunt, but an argument erupted between the couple, then Adil slashed Erum’s throat in a fit of rage and fled the scene.
Police recovered the murder weapon, he added. According to police, the victim belonged to the Odho community, and she was a resident of Chanesar Goth.
Following the incident, the victim’s family held a protest outside the press club and the Governor House. They refused to bury the woman’s body until Adil’s arrest.
The family accused police of negligence, claiming that Adil had drugged Erum by lacing a cake with sedatives before murdering her. They also claimed that police had briefly detained a suspect.
A large number of women participated in the protest to demand swift justice. Later, after negotiations with police, the protesters dispersed peacefully, and the body was handed over for burial. Police have registered a case.
