Sharjeel orders completion of Yellow Line bus project ahead of schedule
Sindh’s Senior Minister for Transport Sharjeel Inam Memon inspected the ongoing construction of the Yellow Line Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) flyover adjacent to the Jam Sadiq Bridge, emphasizing that no delays in its completion would be tolerated.
He directed officials to ensure the project was completed ahead of schedule. During the visit to the Yellow Line BRT flyover on Saturday, Secretary Sindh Transport Department Asad Zaman, Project Director Zameer Abbasi, engineers, representatives from construction companies, and consultants accompanied him. The consultants briefed the minister on the project's progress, challenges, and expected completion timeline.
Speaking to the media, Memon said that the Yellow Line BRT flyover, initially set for completion in September 2025, will be finished by May 2025 — five months ahead of schedule. He acknowledged that utility-related issues pose a significant challenge but reaffirmed the Sindh government's commitment to overcoming them.
Addressing other transport projects, he noted that delays in the Red Line BRT were due to issues involving the Civil Aviation Authority, the Water Board, and the K-IV project. Still, he assured that these hurdles would soon be resolved. Regarding the Green Line BRT, he confirmed that fares would remain unchanged while additional facilities would be introduced to improve public transport services.
Memon also urged Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to fulfil his promise of providing 180 buses for Karachi, calling it the rightful demand of the city’s residents.
Highlighting special initiatives for women, he announced that Pink Scooters are being distributed free to working women, and a Pink Taxi Service will soon be launched to provide safe and comfortable transport for women.
Additionally, he introduced the "I Work for Sindh" app and portal aimed at creating employment opportunities for unemployed youth.
The senior minister reiterated that all these projects are being developed for the people of Karachi and said that they will be completed on time to enhance the city's public transport system.
