Responding to Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab’s demand that Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori get the Rs100 billion for the city that the federal government had pledged for it, the governor has asked the mayor to bring a summary of development projects worth the sum, then he would secure the funds.
“The mayor should come tomorrow. I’ll issue a letter. Then the matter will be between me and the Centre. Until the residents don’t get basic facilities, I’ll keep holding public court at the Governor House,” Tessori said while addressing the participants of an Iftar and dinner event on Thursday.
He said he had asked Wahab to give him in writing the powers he wants. “As the constitutional head, I’ll provide him with those powers.” He asked how the constitutional head of a constitution made for the people can be outside the constitutional limits. “I have no authority. I’ve done public welfare work without authority.”
He pointed out that he has provided IT education to 50,000 children, distributed 950,000 ration bags, distributed several thousand laptops and several thousand motorbikes, etc. “If I were to be given authority, think what would happen next. Then everyone would have employment. They would have their own homes.”
He said that whenever Pakistan has needed it, Islamic countries have actively supported it. Provincial governments have funds worth billions of rupees, and we get ample media coverage, he added.
He also said that the number of people at the Iftar and dinner events at the Governor House is increasing. “These participants are the Tessori family. I’ve given them authority to say ‘my brother is the governor’ if anyone harasses or abuses them.”
When he asked the participants if they trust him, they responded with a loud “yes”. Tessori said that today the consul general of Islamic countries has full confidence in the people’s governor.
He also announced that a Ramazan festival would be organised outside the Governor House, where the event would be held from 8pm to midnight daily. He said swings would be free for children, they would be given chocolates, and horse riding would also be organised.
He also said that on Chandraat, he would arrange for mehndi and bangles for his “sisters”. “I wish that the entire city is illuminated like the Governor House.” Earlier, the governor welcomed the participants and also asked about their problems while meeting with them. People expressed pleasant surprise on seeing him among them. The youth also took selfies with him. He had Iftar and dinner with the consuls general, university students and journalists present on the occasion.
The participants also tried their luck in a draw, in which Murree resident Muhammad Amjad won an Umrah ticket, and Zohaib Javed won a 120-yard plot in Smart City. Moreover, Eid cash was won by Asad, Saber Hussain, Khurshid Alam, Nasreen Bibi, Aneeb Abbas, Samiya Darwish, Ashfaq, Nader Khan, Bilqis Safdar, Azizullah, Asghar Ali and Muhammad Hussain.
