The District Korangi police arrested five members of a gang who were allegedly involved in house arrests, kidnappings for ransom and other crimes while wearing police uniforms. They also recovered illegal weapons from them.

The District Korangi police had been tasked with busting a gang involved in committing various crimes in police uniforms. A team was formed to raid a locality in Korangi, where the five suspects were caught after some resistance.

Ali Imran Sheikh, Waqar, Anil Laxman, Dhiraj Magan Lal and Syed Farzoq Shah, alias Haider, were arrested with two 9mm pistols with bullets, police uniforms, and two motorbikes reported as stolen at the Landhi police station.

The suspects told police that on January 6 they had robbed a man of gold and other goods worth Rs1.6 million in Zaman Town. In 2021 they had fired on a temple in Ranchore Line, Eidgah, and collected Rs500,000 as extortion.

On August 8, 2024, they had kidnapped businessman Salman Butt and kept him in a non-custodial cell before collecting a ransom of Rs1 million.

Also last year they had kept a man named Hammad, who owned an IT centre, in a non-custodial cell for robbery before collecting a ransom of Rs300,000, while they had blackmailed Shankar before collecting Rs200,000.

In November 2024 they had entered a gaming shop in Chakra Goth while impersonating intelligence officials, then kidnapped an employee named Babar and kept him in a non-custodial cell for a day before releasing him.

Police claimed that the suspects had been planning their biggest crime before they got busted. Officials said the suspects used to enter houses wearing uniforms of police and other government agencies, carrying wireless sets, then snatch cash, gold and other valuables.
