Seminar on nursing ethics: Need for adherence to principles stressed

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Medical University (KMU) Institute of Nursing Sciences organised a seminar on nursing ethics, covering critical topics such as euthanasia, organ transplantation, artificial intelligence in healthcare, surrogacy, and harassment against nurses.

Keynote speaker Syed Bakhtiar Ali Shah emphasised the importance of ethical decision-making in nursing, stressing the need for professional integrity and adherence to ethical principles. Students actively participated in discussions, presenting research-based insights on various ethical challenges in the medical field, said an official communique.

A group led by Sher Muhammad Hazara showcased posters and research on euthanasia, detailing its definition, types, and legal implications. Other groups explored ethical considerations in organ transplantation, AI in medicine, surrogacy, and workplace harassment against nurses. The interactive sessions allowed participants to engage in thought-provoking discussions, raising awareness about ethical responsibilities in healthcare.

The seminar concluded with a consensus on the need for continuous ethical education for nursing professionals to keep pace with evolving medical practices and regulations. Participants stressed the importance of patient rights, policy development, and ethical training in nursing curricula.

Organizers were commended for successfully conducting the seminar, with calls for more such educational initiatives in the future. The event served as a valuable platform for nursing students and professionals, reinforcing the significance of ethical standards in medical practice.
