3 cops held in abduction-for-ransom case
LAHORE:Three police officials involved in kidnapping for ransom have been arrested. They were posted at Model Town police station.
It is learnt that the policemen first abducted Dr Mukhtar, then got an ATM card from his home and took him to an ATM booth. The six accused were riding on three motorcycles, one of the officials wearing a mask, took the doctor to the ATM. The official demanded a ransom of Rs500,000 from the kidnapped doctor, but due to the limit of Rs100,000, more money could not be withdrawn from the ATM.
The doctor took out the money and handed it over to the policeman, while he was being pressured to withdraw more money. According to police, the officials first took the doctor from his house in Model Town to Gajjumata, from there an official went back to the doctor's house to collect the bank card. According to the police officials, the accused withdrew the money from a private bank near the General Hospital. The CCTV video of the incident that took place on February 9 came to light.
ASI booked for harassing lady doctor
A case was registered against an ASI of Chuhng Police Station for allegedly harassing a female doctor under the pretext of removing her name from a criminal record. According to the victim, a case was filed against her under the Sound Act. ASI Noor Khan, posted at Chuhng Police Station, allegedly pressured her into private conversations through messages, offering to remove her name from the criminal record in exchange.
Furthermore, the ASI reportedly called her to a tea shop in Gulberg, where he physically harassed her. Upon receiving the victim’s complaint, Gulberg Police registered a case against ASI Noor Khan.
1,324 beggars arrested in two months
Lahore Police Tuesday intensified its crackdown on organized begging networks. The police have claimed arresting 1,324 beggars and registering 1,310 cases against them in two months.
CCPO Bilal Siddique Kamyana in a statement reaffirmed the department’s commitment to dismantle the networks of beggars’ mafia and directed field officers to intensify operations against the beggars.
