Islamabad: A swift police response thwarted a robbery attempt in the G-9 Sector late last night, forcing the robbers to abandon their vehicle and flee the scene. The suspects, who had already carried out a robbery in the area, were preparing for another within the jurisdiction of the Shalimar Police Station when law enforcement arrived.

Senior Superintendent of Police (Operations) Muhammad Shoaib Khan, along with SP (City) Khalid Awan and SHO Shafqat Faiz, led the police operation, when a woman of a house under the robber’s attack, dialled Rescue-15 for help. Upon spotting the police, the robbers escaped, leaving behind their vehicle. The police recovered a pistol from the abandoned car, which has been taken into custody for forensic analysis.

Authorities have collected fingerprints from the vehicle's steering wheel and door handles, sending them to the forensic lab and the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to determine the suspects' identities. The police are confident that the forensic evidence will lead to the arrest of the gang soon.

This foiled robbery is part of a concerning trend of rising street crimes in Islamabad and Rawalpindi. Over the past few months, incidents of mugging, car snatching, and armed robberies have increased, creating a sense of insecurity among residents. Law enforcement agencies have intensified efforts to crack down on criminal gangs operating in the capital.

To combat the rising crime rate, Islamabad police have increased patrolling in high-risk areas and deployed additional surveillance teams. However, residents continue to demand stronger action and stricter policies to curb the growing lawlessness.
