Moot on plastic and reconstructive surgery concludes

PESHAWAR: Experts have urged health professionals to pursue modern training to enhance their techniques in plastic and reconstructive surgery, helping individuals with deformities and preventing disabilities.

The speakers made these remarks at the four-day 29th Annual International Conference on Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, which concluded here on Tuesday.More than 350 delegates, including 50 international experts, attended the event organized by the Pakistan Association of Plastic Surgeons (PAPS).

The conference began with three pre-conference workshops focused on specialized areas: cleft surgery, hypospadiology surgery, and supermicro surgery.The sessions were led by an international faculty, including Prof Brian Sommerlad (UK), Prof Taimoor AlBulushi (Oman), Prof Neil Brieley (UK), Prof Ahmad Talha Hadidi (Germany), Prof Seref Etker (Turkiye), Prof Zhegang Zhou (China), Prof Zhang Yi (China), Prof Yang Yi (China), Dr Mansoor Khan (Pakistan) and Prof Obaidullah (Pakistan).

Prof Zhegang Zhou delivered a presentation on research exploring the potential of lymphatic

surgery in treating patients with Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s disease.The conference featured sessions on burn, aesthetic, and breast surgeries, conducted by a distinguished panel including Dr Khalid Khan (Belfast, Ireland), Dr Riaz Malik (UK), Dr Omar Ahmad (UK), Dr Azhar Malik (UK), Dr. Ciaran O’Boyle (Ireland), and Dr Abid Rashid (Ireland).

Prof Emre Hocaoglu (Turkiye) and Prof Mark Fisher (USA) also shared their extensive surgical expertise.The President of the British Association of Plastic, Reconstructive & Aesthetic Surgery, Dr Paul McArthur, delivered keynote lectures on hand surgery.

Pakistani plastic surgeons, including Prof. Mamoon, Prof Farid, ProfTajjumal Choudhry, Prof Ashraf Ghanatra, and Prof Ghulam Qadir Fayaz, also contributed their expertise.

Prof Tahmeedullah, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and President of PAPS, emphasized the conference’s significance in creating new opportunities for young Pakistani plastic surgeons, offering invaluable training, and fostering a global network of collaboration.

He extended gratitude to the organizing team, including Dr Shadman, Dr Qazi Amjad, Dr Nasir Hayat, Dr Waqas Hayat, and Dr Adeeba, for ensuring the conference’s success.Prof Taimoor AlBulushi (Oman) offered assistance in establishing a craniofacial surgery centre in Peshawar, a gesture warmly welcomed by the Pakistani medical community.

Khyber Medical University (KMU) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Ziaul Haq, the chief guest, announced a partnership with the Burn & Plastic Surgery Centre to offer specialized diplomas in burn and plastic surgery.

He stated that under the leadership of Prof Dr Tahmeedullah, the university had signed a Memorandum of Understanding to introduce a Nursing Diploma in Burns & Plastic Surgery and an Advanced Diploma in Burn Surgery for young plastic surgeons.
