Sixth death anniversary of Musa Khankhel marked
MINGORA: Speakers paid rich tribute to the martyred journalist and reporter of The News, Musa Khankhel, at an event to mark his 16th anniversary here on Tuesday.
The speakers, including Swat Press Club Chairman Niaz Ahmad, Dr Mahboob Ali, Essa Khankhel, Syed Shahabuddin, Shehzad Alam, SP Swat Bacha Hazrat, and Traders Federation divisional president Abdur Rahim said that peace in Swat had been achieved due to the sacrifices of journalists.
They said that the martyred journalist played a significant role in the field of journalism and for the restoration of lasting peace in the region. The speakers said that Musa Khankhel was a fearless and courageous journalist, who played an important role in restoring peace in Swat.
The speakers regretted that the promises made by the government to the family of the martyred journalist had not been fulfilled.
They recalled that ex-prime minister and now the Senate Chairman Yusuf Raza Gilani had promised to grant a plot in the name of the martyr’s mother, but the promise remained unfulfilled to this day.
The journalist community urged the Senate chairman to fulfill the commitment of providing the promised plot to the mother of the martyred journalist. On this occasion, renowned poet Zafar Ali Naz also recited poetry in remembrance of Musa Khankhels’s life. Later, prayers were offered for the martyred journalist.
Musa Khankhel was abducted and martyred by unidentified miscreants while covering the Matta peace rally.On February 18, Musa Khankhel had gone to Matta to cover the peace rally of the banned organization Tehreek Nifaz-e-Shariat.
