Shahid, Asif advance to quarters of Asian Snooker Championship
KARACHI: Pakistan’s top cueists Shahid Aftab and Muhammad Asif advanced to the quarterfinals of the ACBS Asian Men’s Snooker Championship 2025 after impressive performances in the pre-quarterfinals.
Shahid Aftab, the recent National Champion, continued his dominant form, defeating Singapore’s Sunny Wang 4-1 in Round 22. The frame scores were (38-59, 66-22, 77(77)-0, 91(91)-7, 68-43). In the pre-quarterfinals, Shahid outclassed China’s Zhou Jinhao 4-1 in a thrilling contest with frame scores of (59-54, 63-30, 99(71)-1, 6-65, 62-38).
However, it was an unlucky day for Mohammad Sajjad, who was knocked out by Iran’s Amir Sarkosh with a 4-1 defeat. Sarkosh dominated with frame scores of (78-14, 83(62)-32, 8-96(96), 75(75)-1, 73(52)-0).
Meanwhile, tournament favorite Muhammad Asif triumphed over South Korea’s Youngjun Park 4-3 in a thrilling battle. The victory scoreline was (61(61)-71, 91(56)-27, 6-97, 72(56)-60, 10-68, 110(100)-14, 66-50). In the ACBS Asian U21 Snooker Championship, Hamza Ilyas defeated Taiwan’s Wang Jyun Kai 3-0, and Ahsan Ramzan beat Taipei’s Chen Zih Ying 3-0 on Day 1.
