Police await autopsy report in Dr Akash Ansari death case
HYDERABAD: Writer and poet Dr Akash Ansari died due to a fire at his house in the Citizen Colony area of Qasimabad, Hyderabad, on Saturday.
Dr Ansari was buried at a graveyard in Badin after a post-mortem examination in Hyderabad. After the funeral, his foster son and driver were taken into custody by the Badin police and handed over to the Hyderabad police.
The atmosphere of Badin city was mournful on Sunday, with people of all schools of thought, the civil society and the poet’s friends coming to Badin to pay tribute to him. The Hyderabad SSP told The News that police are waiting for the autopsy report, which would clarify whether the poet’s death was accidental or he was murdered, following which an FIR may be registered.
The officer said Dr Ansari’s foster son Shah Latif, alias Vishal, and driver are being questioned. Latif’s two friends are also being questioned, while police have also talked to the poet’s magistrate son-in-law. The SSP said that no one has admitted to committing a crime.
