Escaping ‘drug peddler’ dies in bid to evade arrest
LAHORE : A police raid in Barki area resulted in the death of an alleged drug dealer, who fell from a rooftop while attempting to evade arrest.
The incident has sparked protests from the deceased's relatives, who claim police misconduct.
According to reports, the Barki police conducted a raid on the residence of Ali Raza in Baowala village, located in the Defence C area, acting on a tip-off regarding his uncle Aslam’s alleged drug-related activities. Upon seeing the police, Aslam reportedly attempted to escape by jumping from the roof but hit electric wires during his fall, leading to severe injuries. He was rushed to Mayo Hospital, where doctors confirmed his death.
Following the incident, police transferred Aslam's body to the morgue and initiated legal proceedings. However, Aslam’s relatives staged a protest, accusing the police of throwing him off the roof, leading to his death. In response to the allegations, the SP concerned stated that the deceased had a criminal record with over fifty drug-related cases. Additionally, his nephew Ali Raza was also involved in drug dealing and had a criminal history. The police have launched an investigation into the incident to determine the exact circumstances surrounding Aslam’s death.
Youth shot at, injured
A young man sustained serious injuries after being fired upon by unidentified assailants in Sundar area.
M Ilyas of Sundar was at home when an unexpected knock at the door prompted him to respond. As soon as he opened the door, two unidentified suspects opened fire, leaving him seriously wounded. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Family members and neighbours rushed to his aid and promptly transported him to hospital, where doctors have reported his condition to be stable and out of danger. Upon receiving information, police arrived at the scene and initiated an inquiry into the incident.
