The concluding session of a two-day international conference on robotic surgery here on Saturday called for expanding the network of robotic surgery across the country as it would go a long way in providing relief and cure to the ailing population at large
The conference was organized by the SIUT (Sindh Institute of Urology and Transplantation, which was attended by robotic surgeons and physicians from within the country and abroad. The institute happens to be the pioneer institution in the country to bring the robotic surgery to the forefront of the medical sector.
Robotic surgery experts who took part in the discussion stressed the importance of robotic surgery as it is based on precision, efficiency and better care of patients. They said the robotic surgery is the state-of-the-art technology and all prepared to accept the challenges of the future.
Dr Saeed Quraishi, president of the Pakistan Robotic Society, and Dr Irfan Rizvi, a visiting surgeon from the US, pointed out that the robotic procedures are accessible and free of charge at the SIUT to patients regardless of their socio-economic background.
Badar Mian, another visiting surgeon, said accuracy and minimum time frame are the most redeeming factors of the procedure. Dr Sajida Quresihi spoke on the ethical aspect of robotic surgery. Mr Andre De Silva underlined the need for training and equipping with knowledge on the subject to support staff. Javaid Iqbal, Vipul Patel and Rashid Mazhar also spoke.
