Parliamentarians, when campaigning for votes, make a show of caring about people’s issues. They deceive them with false promises, blinding them with empty hopes. Once the elections are over, these parliamentarians enter the assemblies only to serve their own interests. They forget why they are in power and who brought them there. Instead of working for their constituents, they focus on securing funding, perks, privileges, fuel allowances, luxury cars, rent allowances, and high salaries for themselves. Meanwhile, the people are left with nothing. The excessive perks and privileges of parliamentarians severely impact the country’s economy. While they serve their own needs and seek power, they neglect the economic stability of the nation.
As a result, Pakistan’s education and healthcare systems remain underfunded and continue to deteriorate. The country struggles to maintain economic relations with other nations, further worsening its financial condition. If parliamentarians prioritise their own enrichment, the rest of the country suffers under austerity measures, discontinued development programmes, and increased bills, tariffs, and taxes. It is a shameful reality that those in power fail to help the very people who elected them. Parliamentarians must reconsider their actions and work for the betterment of the people, rather than for their personal gains.
