PESHAWAR: The father of a slain student of the Army Public School (APS) on Wednesday asked the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) to unblock his computerised national identity card (CNIC).

Talking to The News here, Tufail Khattak, father of Sher Shah Shaheed who was martyred in the terrorist attack on the Army Public School, said he was planning to go for Haj along with his wife in order to come out of the trauma after the death of his beloved eldest son.

He said that when he was fulfilling the requirements for filing an application for Haj he came to know that his CNIC had been blocked for the last six months.  “I couldn’t believe my ears when I was told by an official of the Nadra that my CNIC (17201-2320672-3) had been blocked since August 19, 2015,” he added.

He said he went from pillar to post to get his CNIC unblocked, but to no avail.“Is this the reward for the sacrifices our family has rendered for this country? he asked. “Several members of my family have been serving in the armed forces in different capacities. My late father retired as a junior commissioned officer and my elder brother recently retired as colonel,” he reminded. Tufail said he had informed senior Nadra officials about his problem and even appeared before the joint investigation team at the Nadra office in Peshawar on March 21, 2016.

He said he even wrote a letter to Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to get the issue resolved.“To bring this issue into the notice of the higher authorities, I wrote a letter to Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan on March 29, 2016. The copies of the letter were also sent to the secretary interior, DG Nadra, DG Passports and DG FIA,” he said.He said he may not be able to proceed for Haj if his CNIC was not unblocked.
