WASHINGTON: Paul Kapur, a harsh critic of Pakistan, has been nominated to be the Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia, the international media reported.
Paul Kapur was tapped to be Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asia. Kapur, an expert on India-Pakistan security and nuclear issues, will replace Donald Lu. He has authored several books on South Asian geopolitics.
The appointment is aimed at prioritising the US’s relations with India. If confirmed, Kapur will become only the second Indian-descent US diplomat overseeing the South Asia Bureau, which is tasked with managing diplomatic ties with India and the region.
