Bid to kidnap newborn foiled, woman held

CHARSADDA: A woman was caught red-handedly while trying to kidnap a newborn from the Women and Children’s Hospital in Rajjar here on Thursday.The hospital staff and the victim’s family managed to stop her in time, and the baby was safely recovered.

Sadiq Khan, the newborn’s maternal uncle, said that his sister had given birth to twins. The infants, he said, remained in the hospital ward for four hours before they discovered that one of them was missing. Upon realising this, he said, they immediately started searching for the baby within the hospital premises.

During their search, he added, a woman attempting to leave the hospital raised suspicion. When confronted, she was found carrying the abducted newborn. The family and hospital staff handed her over to the police.

The officials of the City Police Station identified the suspect as 25-year-old Khadija, a resident of Tangi Tehsil. She was taken into custody, and a case was registered against her. The accused was transferred to the Women’s Police Station for further investigation.
