Aide to CM says KP rich in energy resources
PESHAWAR: Special Assistant to Chief Minister for Energy, Tariq Sadozai said on Wednesday that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa was rich in hydropower resources whose utilization could resolve the energy crisis and such projects would fetch a huge revenue for the province.
He expressed these views while addressing a meeting organized by the Korean Hydro-Indus Nuclear Power Company’s investor delegation on the progress of the 470 MW Lower Spat Gah Power Project in the Kohistan region with the cooperation of KHNP, a state-owned company working in the energy sector of South Korea, and the KP government.
The participants of the meeting were informed that under the public-private partnership mode, with the cooperation of the Korean company and provincial government, 470 MW of electricity would be generated from the Lower Spat Gah Project and the province would have an annual income of about Rs 3 billion.
The project will be completed in five years, which was the largest hydropower project in the recent history of the province.The problems faced at the federal level were discussed in the meeting. Various options were mulled to remove the obstacles to the issuance of generation licenses for the project and other issues with the federal government at the provincial level.
