PTI leaders term Peca direct attack on freedom of press
NOWSHERA: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) district president MPA Mian Muhammad Umar Kakakhel and MPA and chairman of the District Development Advisory Committee (DDAC) Zar Alam Khan on Saturday condemned the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (Peca), calling it a direct attack on press freedom.
Speaking at a reception held at the Nowshera Press Club, they asserted that the federal government was trying to suppress free speech to hide its anti-people policies.
Deputy Commissioner Nowshera Irfanullah Mehsud, District Police Officer Abdul Rasheed Khan also spoke on the occasion.
The PTI leaders said that journalists serve as the voice of the people. They urged media professionals to use their pens for constructive criticism and societal awareness.
They also highlighted the KP government’s initiatives for the welfare of journalists, reinforcing PTI’s commitment to press freedom and a prosperous media sector.
MPA Mian Kakakhel asaid that significant measures had been taken to improve the condition of Nowshera’s municipal administration and healthcare facilities.
He revealed that ghost employees in the Tehsil Municipal Administration (TMA) have been forced to return to duty, while those who remain absent will be dismissed. He also assured that corruption in local government offices would not be tolerated.
On the occasion, DDAC Chairman Zar Alam Khan announced the installation of a water bore for clean drinking water at the press club, while MPA Mian Muhammad Umar Kakakhel pledged to provide a heavy solar power system for the entire press club building.
The leaders reiterated their commitment to good governance, transparency, and press freedom, promising continued efforts to uplift the region’s infrastructure and services.
