Lanjar asks SBC leaders to meet IGP to resolve issues
Sindh Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar on Friday made a telephonic contact with the vice chairman and chairman of the executive committee of the Sindh Bar Council.
Lanjar told them to meet with IGP Ghulam Nabi Memon to consider and resolve the issue. Matters should be settled through mutual consultation and negotiation, he said and added that if a judicial inquiry is intended, then all possible steps should be taken in this regard.
The home minister said a judicial inquiry should be conducted under the supervision of a judge of the high court of Hyderabad. A representative of the bar and a senior police officer should be included in the judicial inquiry committee. If a decision is reached between both parties in the judicial inquiry, legal action will be taken against the perpetrators. “I request the legal community to end the protest in the public interest and let the law make its own way.”
The Sindh police department on Thursday night issued a statement regarding the conflict that arose a few days before between police and lawyers. As per statement issued reads, “In view of the threat of possible terrorist acts across Sindh, Sindh Police is conducting a campaign against fancy and fake number plates, hooters, police lights and vehicles with blackened glass.
“In this regard, on February-3, 2025, during a checking in the limits of Bhittai Nagar Police Station, Hyderabad Police Range seized a Mehran with a green number plate and blackened glasses. When the person riding in this car was questioned, he could not give any reasonable answer, on which the police, playing its role, took action under the prevailing law.
“Some lawyers of Hyderabad had reservations about this legal action, who made it an issue and protested and vandalized the SSP office in Hyderabad. The top leadership of the police held talks with the lawyers’ leadership and a time of 12 noon was fixed for going to the bar, so that the matter could be resolved amicably, but some lawyers made a condition that you should bring the SSP’s transfer order with you, otherwise there is no need for you to come.
“During this process of discussion, some lawyers reached Hyderabad Bypass and blocked it, which has become a very painful issue for the public. Sindh Police, while showing patience and tolerance, and staying within the ambit of the law, wants a solution to this problem, in which it is offered to the lawyers’ community that a judicial inquiry into this matter should be conducted under the supervision of the District Sessions Judge, Hyderabad, in which a representative of the bar and a senior police officer should be included, who would determine where illegal acts have been committed and what action should be taken against those responsible. “Both the police and the lawyers represent the prevailing law of the land and play their respective roles in implementing it and it is hoped that no illegal act will be committed.”
