The Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC) has increased the age limit of teachers to 75 years to address the shortage of teachers in medical and dental colleges.
In this regard, PMDC Deputy Registrar Imam Bakhsh has issued a letter to the principals of all medical and dental colleges across the country, deans of postgraduate medical/dental institutes and registrars of all medical universities, stating that in a recent meeting of the council, it has been decided that the age limit of teachers in private medical and dental colleges has been increased from 70 to 75 years.
According to the PMDC, there is a shortage of professors in government and private medical and dental colleges and there is a delay in the arrival of new professors, so the age limit has been increased for some time. According to PMDC data, the faculty requirement for the 187 medical/dental colleges in the country is 26,018, while 22,146 faculty members are available in these colleges.
