The project to construct the six canals on the Indus River has resulted in widespread protests across Sindh. It goes without saying that the proposed plan poses a threat to Sindh’s already water-scarce agriculture-sector and the overall water needs of its population. The province is already struggling to meet its water needs and this move will further exacerbate the situation. Many farmers and families could also face unemployment, which will further deteriorate the economy and the financial difficulties of the people. Therefore, the digging of these canals is an unjust and unethical move. All stakeholders should come forward and resolve this issue at the earliest to end the worries of the people.
