Statements of 3 more witnesses in GHQ attack case recorded

RAWALPINDI: In Adiala Jail Rawalpindi, the statements of three more witnesses were recorded in the General Headquarters (GHQ) attack case involving Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, as well as other individuals.

The hearing of the GHQ attack case was conducted by Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Amjad Ali Shah in the jail. The court granted permission to Imran Khan’s family members to attend the trial, as requested by the defence lawyers.

The prosecution raised an objection to allowing Bushra Bibi to sit in the GHQ trial, stating that Bushra Bibi was a convict in another case and had been sentenced by the court. The prosecution argued that there was no provision in the law that permitted a convict to attend the trial of another case.

The defence lawyers filed a petition to merge 13 cases related to the May-9 events, requesting that a single charge sheet be filed for all cases, as they refer to the same conspiracy. The defence petitioned that all the cases related to May 9 be consolidated and tried in one court.

After the defence lawyer Faisal Malik completed his arguments regarding Imran Khan’s acquittal petition, the hearing was adjourned. The prosecution will present its arguments on the next date of hearing.

A total of 12 prosecution witnesses’ statements have been recorded in the case. The court adjourned the next hearing until January 29. On January 22, the statements of four witnesses were recorded in the GHQ attack case against Imran Khan and other accused.
