LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has decided in principle to provide Nighaban Ramazan packages to millions of families across the province.
While chairing a special meeting on the initiative, she urged citizens to complete registration for the programme by February 15. She also directed the authorities to ensure transparency in distributing these packages to deserving families.
“The Nighaban Ramadan package is the right of the poor and a duty of the government,” said the chief minister. “People should receive their entitlement with respect and dignity.”
She emphasised that families must not stand in long queues for these packages.
The chief ninister said, “Serving the people during Ramazan is an opportunity to seek Allah Almighty’s blessings. The administration and relevant authorities must treat this responsibility as an act of worship, not just a duty.”
During the meeting, she reviewed various suggestions and recommendations for the package.
Relevant officials briefed her that registration in the Punjab Socio-Economic Registry (PSER) is a prerequisite for eligibility. Citizens can register from home via the online portal [pser.punjab.gov.pk. Registration facilities will also be available at union councils and municipality offices, and a dedicated helpline (0800-02345) has been established to assist citizens. For the first time, the province has initiated the e-mechanisation of environment-friendly agriculture and solid waste management.
At the Chief Minister’s Office, Beijing AI Force Tech and Daewoo Pakistan signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to introduce modern AI-based machinery for solid waste management.
The MoU was signed by AI Force Tech CEO Dr. Han Wei and Daewoo Pakistan representative Muhammad Khalid in the presence of the chief minister.
During the meeting with a delegation led by Dr. Han Wei, plans were finalised to establish an assembling and manufacturing plant for e-agriculture mechanisation in Punjab. This plant will manufacture robotic agricultural equipment, including transportation robots and harvesting robots, to modernise the agricultural sector. The collaboration also includes the development of a 17-acre e-mechanised model farm on the outskirts of Lahore. The farm will feature electric tractors, harvesters, and land levellers, powered by a solar energy system installed on the greenhouse. Additionally, driverless electric tractors will be introduced.
AI Force Tech will set up charging stations for electric tractors and other machinery while providing equipment to the Lahore Waste Management Company. This partnership will extend to robotic farming, seed germination, weather forecasting, and soil fertility enhancement. The company will also assist in modern farming techniques to achieve higher yields with minimal water usage, alongside promoting digital plantation, satellite monitoring, and advanced research.
