Three under trial prisoners killed in Swabi

SWABI: Three under-trial prisoners were killed and another sustained injuries when armed men opened fire on them while being taken back to the jail after their court hearing here on Friday.

It was learnt that two cops were taking back the prisoners to the Swabi jail in a car after a court hearing in Chota Lahor tehsil when four armed men riding two motorcycles opened fire on them, killing two of them on the spot and one succumbed to injuries in hospital.

The slain prisoners were identified as Ehtisham Khan, who hailed from Jaganat village in Razaar tehsil, was charged with murder case, Wasim Khan belonging to Akora Khattak was arrested in a drug case and Sudais Khan from Manki village in Chota Lahor tehsil was also charged with a murder case.

Irfan Khan hailing from Nowshera, who was arrested in connection with a drugs case, was injured in the firing.

Meanwhile, an alleged robber identified as Aamir Khan, who allegedly tried to snatch a gun from a policeman in a bid to escape from custody, was killed in an encounter with police on Friday.

He was charged in a robbery case and was being taken to Timergara for identifying his accomplices involved in the robbery. However when they reached Yar Hussain village, the tyre of the police vehicle punctured and the vehicle stopped. During this time, he tried to snatch a gun from a cop and was killed in the subsequent encounter.
