Police must ensure strict security of Chinese nationals: IGP
Sindh police chief Ghulam Nabi Memon on Thursday said police should ensure complete security to Chinese nationals. He also said that clearance of police and private security personnel tasked with the security of Chinese nationals should be mandatory from the relevant agencies.
IG Memon chaired a meeting at the Central Police Office to review the movement and security of Chinese nationals, experts and staff engaged in CPEC and non-CPEC projects in the province.
The Special Branch and SPU DIGs told the meeting about the current status of the measures taken by the Sindh police regarding the protection of Chinese nationals, and other necessary suggestions and details.
A survey has been conducted by the Special Branch to fully review the security arrangements made for the Chinese nationals involved in CPEC and non-CPEC projects. The meeting was told that representatives of the Special Branch, the district police, the SPU and other law enforcement agencies are also involved in the security audit and survey at district level.
The Special Branch has prepared a comprehensive security audit report based on districts that will be presented soon. The audit report includes the current security situation, the required resources, the challenges and various suggestions. Moreover, ex-servicemen are being deployed by the hosts for the security of all Chinese nationals.
Memon ordered the Special Branch, the SPU and the district police to formulate a joint strategy and action plan for the security arrangements of Chinese nationals and ensure its implementation.
He said the Special Branch should ensure strict scrutiny before issuing NOCs for the hosts, companies, staff, residential areas and transit points of Chinese nationals. The SPU should ensure regular security briefings to all personnel assigned to protect Chinese nationals regarding their duties, he added.
Later, Karachi police chief Javed Alam Odho chaired a meeting at the Karachi Police Office with the DIGs of the East, West and South zones, the investigation and CIA DIGs, the district SSPs, the investigation and AVCC SPs, and other senior police officers.
The meeting discussed the recovery of missing and abducted children, law and order, and traffic management. Addl IG Odho ordered taking effective steps for the recovery of children, increasing police patrolling, and taking legal action against criminals.
He stressed ensuring immediate steps for securing important installations, police establishments and foreign nationals, implementing traffic rules, and eliminating illegal bus stands and encroachments. He said that protecting the public’s lives and properties is the top priority of the police.
