Police commanders’ conference reviews performance
Islamabad:Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, presided over a conference of operational commanders at the Safe City Headquarters. The meeting, attended by senior police officials including DIGs, AIGs, SSPs, and SPs, focused on evaluating the performance of various police units and implementing reforms to enhance efficiency.
In his address, IGP Rizvi stated that all police units had been visited and audited over the past 15 days. The review highlighted significant weaknesses across various establishments. To address these shortcomings, the IGP announced the introduction of performance indicators to improve unit efficiency.
He also revealed that steps for the right-sizing of officers and optimal resource utilisation had already begun. Moving forward, independent reports will be sought to evaluate unit performance.
The IGP stressed that DIGs would now be held accountable for the performance of their divisions. Weekly reviews of subordinate officers’ work will become mandatory, and zonal SPs are required to personally hear complaints related to serious crimes.
City zone officers received reprimands for poor performance, with directives to improve immediately. Additionally, the IGP emphasised that future postings would be based solely on expertise and experience, with no room for favouritism.
Officials found guilty of corruption or incompetence will face strict departmental action without exception. Conversely, officers demonstrating exemplary performance will be rewarded with appreciation certificates and prizes.
The IGP also issued directives to enhance the city’s traffic management system and reiterated a zero-tolerance policy towards corruption, organised crime, and unethical behaviour. He instructed officers to intensify crackdowns on drug trafficking and kite flying, which he termed as priorities for public safety.
