Pakistan women knocked out of U19 T20WC after Ireland defeat
LAHORE: Pakistan’s hopes of reaching the ICC U-19 Women’s T20 World Cup Super Six stage were dashed today as they suffered a 13-run defeat to Ireland in a rain-shortened encounter at the Johor Cricket Academy Oval in Malaysia
The loss, determined by the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern (DLS) method, relegated Pakistan to fourth place in Group B, setting up a consolation play-off against Samoa on Friday, while Ireland joined England and the United States in advancing to the Super Six phase. In a match reduced to nine overs per side due to weather conditions, Ireland posted a competitive 69-5 after choosing to bat first.
Player of the match Alice Walsh led the charge with an aggressive 31 off just 19 deliveries, including five boundaries, before falling to leg-spinner Quratulain in the seventh over. Walsh received support from opening partner Freya Sargent (11 off 10) and useful contributions from Annabel Squires (13 not out) and Abbi Harrison (10). Pakistan’s Memoona Khalid made a significant impact in her sole over, claiming two wickets.
