PARACHINAR/HANGU: A driver who had gone missing after the attack on convoy was found dead on Tuesday, police said.
The victim was identified as Tanveer Abbas and his body was found in Lower Kurram’s Araoli area.
The police said the bodies of other missing drivers were recovered a few days ago from the same area.
The death toll from the convoy attack, including two security personnel, has risen to nine, police said.
After being abducted, Tanveer Abbas had contacted his family multiple times, family members revealed to the media.
Meanwhile, security forces, backed by gunship helicopters, on Tuesday targeted the suspected hideouts of the alleged miscreants in the troubled parts of the Kurram tribal district where a door-to-door search operation was also launched.
The targeted operation in the Bagan and surrounding areas of Kurram district has been ongoing for three days.
The gunship helicopters targeted militant hideouts in Bagan, Uchat, Charkhel, Dad Qamar, as well as in Central Kurram’s Zeranah and adjacent areas.
It was learnt that a door-to-door search operation was also being conducted in Bagan and nearby areas.
The district administration officials said that the ongoing operation was part of an agreement to take action to restore government writ. Efforts were underway to ensure the implementation of all clauses of the peace agreement, the officials added.
The prolonged closure of transportation routes for over 116 days has severely affected residents.
Member Provincial Assembly Ali Hadi Irfani called for the reopening and securing of access routes. He commended the use of helicopter services to deliver medicines to Parachinar and transfer patients to Peshawar, urging that these services should continue to provide relief to the affected population.
Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner, Hangu, Gohar Zaman Wazir said that approximately 20 families from Kurram district had relocated to Hangu in order to seek shelter with relatives.
He said that arrangements were in place to establish camps for any potential influx of displaced people from Kurram.
The deputy commissioner clarified that no displaced persons had approached the administration directly, and those who had arrived in Hangu were staying with relatives.
To assist potential arrivals, an entry point had been established at the Hangu Torpul checkpoint, staffed with revenue officials, while all departments had been placed on high alert, he said.
He added that a site at Mohammad Khwaja area had been proposed for setting up a camp for displaced families.
The location is equipped with health, education, and water facilities. In line with directives from the chief minister, the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) dispatched 22 vehicles with essential supplies, he said.
The deputy commissioner said that the administration had sufficient resources and can set up camps within three hours of receiving notice. He said three government buildings in Thall had been designated for emergency use, ensuring immediate shelter and assistance for families arriving unexpectedly at night.
He said that currently, no displaced persons were residing in the proposed camps. However, about 70 families were staying at the Thall Girls’ Degree College, he said, adding that these families were displaced three months ago due to unrest in Bagan.
