KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah on Tuesday paid a surprise visit to the Risala police station, District City, along with Home Minister Ziaul Hassan Lanjar.

Shah also inspected the women’s police station under construction in the Risala police station limits. He said he would continue visiting police stations in Karachi, adding that police should help the public, and ensure the safety of their lives and properties.

He asked Lanjar to order a report on the delay in the construction of the women’s police station. He also inspected the new building of the Risala model police station and the ladies desk in the building. He also sought information from the facilitation desk.

He was informed that whatever complaint is received is computerised, following which he opened a complaint register to review it. He expressed anger over a lady constable put on duty at the ladies desk, and ordered replacing her with an experienced female officer.

He was later informed about the personnel of the model police station: there should be over 100 personnel but only 65 are fixed. On checking the records of the police station, he noted that there should be 83.

He also expressed anger over not having half the personnel as per the day-night shift. He noted that the previous day’s attendance was not even 20, and directed City SSP Arif to ensure the duty of the staff.

Shah asked Lanjar to further improve the model police station. He also checked the lock-up, saying that he should not see any innocent person locked up there.

He saw nine people locked up there, then checked the FIR register for information about them. He also directed the SHO to install CCTV cameras in his office, and told the SSP to maintain his police stations in good condition.

Later, Shah and Lanjar paid a surprise visit to the District Keamari deputy commissioner’s office. The CM suspended two assistant commissioners and one Mukhtiarkar, and ordered the transfer of a sub-registrar.

Shah noted that many officers were absent, while visitors waited for assistance. Upon inquiry, he discovered that Revenue AC Nawaz Kalwar, Mauripur AC Muhammad Yasin and Mukhtiarkar Mir Mohammad Nawaz Talpur had not reported for duty.

Visiting the Domicile Office, the CM interacted with young people waiting for their domicile issuance. It was revealed that the processing of their domiciles was complete, but they were waiting for the absent AC’s signature. Shah then directed the chief secretary to suspend their services. The CS immediately issued the suspension orders.

The CM also visited the office of the Gadap Town sub-registrar-II. Sub-registrar Abdul Nabi Lashari, despite being on duty, failed to inform Shah about the operations of his office. The CM expressed displeasure, and ordered his transfer back to the Board of Revenue.
