Free legal aid is an essential aspect of the justice system, as it ensures that every individual, regardless of their financial status, has access to legal representation. It is also the right of an individual and a duty of the state. Without free legal aid, poor individuals are unable to defend their legal rights or pursue justice in the courts that can result in unequal access to justice.
The judiciary should prioritise and emphasise the importance of legal aid, particularly when the gap between the privileged and underprivileged is widening. By doing so, we can help bridge the gap and promote a fair and equitable legal system.
