Reko Diq increases foreign investors’ interest in Balochistan: Bugti
CM mentions this project will not only be milestone for Balochistan but for entire country’s development
QUETTA: Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfaraz Bugti has said that the decision to develop the Reko Diq project has significantly increased foreign investors’ interest in the mining sector of Balochistan.
The revenue generated from the project will be spent in the Chagai and Rakhshan divisions, ensuring that the true stakeholders of this valuable asset gain maximum benefits. He expressed these views during his visit to the Reko Diq project on Saturday.
The chief minister mentioned that this project will not only be a milestone for Balochistan but for the entire country’s development. He added that the Balochistan government is working to empower local communities through quality healthcare, education, and skill development. CM praised the social development initiatives by the Reko Diq Mining Company (RDMC), stating that these actions align with the government’s vision.
The chief minister also visited Nokundi Mother and Child Health Centre and the Hunar Foundation Training Institute, commending the services provided. During the visit, Barrick Gold Corporation’s CEO, Mark Bristow, stated that the Reko Diq project is a milestone in the development of Balochistan’s mining industry. He said Reko Diq has ushered in a new era of mining in the region. As the operator of the project, Barrick Gold Corporation is committed to making it a key driver for regional development.
Mark Bristow highlighted that Barrick Corporation has already initiated Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) efforts, focusing on education, healthcare, clean water provision, and skill development in order to provide local communities with education, healthcare, and essential services before the revenue starts. He mentioned that the project will begin this year, with production expected to start by the end of 2028. He further added that Reko Diq is set to become a world class mining operation, and Barrick Gold Corporation will play a positive role as a trusted partner between the federal and provincial governments.
