Car theft suspect dies two days after arrest

A man arrested by the Shah Latif Town police on charges of car theft two days ago died at Jinnah Hospital during treatment on Saturday.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson for Malir police investigation, Habibullah was arrested along with his three accomplices, identified as Abdul Aziz, Obaidullah and Hayat, on charges of car theft, and a case was registered under Section 381A on January 16. The police also claimed recovering the stolen Suzuki hi-roof van.
According to the spokesperson, Habibullah was addicted to drugs and shifted to Jinnah Hospital on January 16 when his health deteriorated. He died during treatment.
The spokesperson denied torture in police custody. However, he said, an investigation was being conducted.
